Dear Graduate Community at UMBC,
I am excited to announce, and would like to invite you to attend, the first TEDx conference to take place at UMBC, partnering with the Graduate Student Association, Honors College, and Interdisciplinary Studies! The event will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 from 10am-4pm at the University Center (UC) Ballroom. The day’s program will consist of 10 live speakers, including members of the UMBC community, as well as from the local Baltimore area. The theme of the event is “Reaching New Heights”.
TED brings together the world’s leading thinkers and doers to share ideas that matter in any discipline — technology, entertainment, design, science, humanities, business, development. The talks at the conference, called TED Talks, are then made available to watch for free on TED.com. In the spirit of “ideas worth spreading,” TED has created TEDx, a program of local, self-organized events, operated under a license, that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks, videos, and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connections.
Tickets will be sold online and will be $5 for UMBC Students/Affiliates and $10 for General Admission – there will be a small additional fee of less than $2 for buying tickets online. There are 100 spots available for the seated audience — I encourage to buy your tickets soon if you would like to attend. The link to tickets is: www.missiontix.com/TEDxUMBC
