GA Opening at UMBC-Shady Grove

POSITION TITLE:                  Graduate Assistant

PERSONNEL STATUS:        Administrative GA, 12 months, 20 hours/week

DEPARTMENT:          Division of Professional Studies, Shady Grove Programs

Note:  Position will be at the Shady Grove campus in Montgomery County, Maryland

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Reporting to the Associate Director of UMBC at The Universities at Shady Grove, the Graduate Assistant will be responsible for providing overall support to the UMBC-Shady Grove administration in the areas of faculty support, student affairs, recruitment, and marketing. The incumbent will manage textbook adoptions, provide faculty support services, coordinate the course evaluation process, and maintain the adjunct faculty offices. Additionally, the Graduate Assistant will assist with recruitment processes and events, maintain student databases, conduct resume and cover letter reviews, and support experiential learning placements and student development. The Graduate Assistant will also provide administrative support to staff members and complete other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:  Requires full-time enrollment in a degree-granting graduate program for Spring 2014 and Fall 2014 semesters at a USM institution; Requires experience in customer service; Requires excellent communication skills; Experience with resume and cover letter reviews and experiential learning strongly preferred.

Availability:  Requires 12 month availability (January 2014 through December 2014); 20 hours per week; Approximate start date: 1/6/14

REMUNERATION:

Stipend: $525.02 per pay period
Tuition Remission: 9 credits/Spring, 6 credits/Summer, 9 credits/Fall  (Note: payment of student fees is the responsibility of the GA)
Benefits: UMBC GA Health Insurance
Leave: 40 hours paid leave plus applicable UMBC holidays
