Fall 2012 Registration & Billing Guidelines for Graduate Students

The Graduate School recognizes that students balance several different concerns and demands – including financial ones – when deciding on what day to register for classes.  To assist students in their decision-making, The Graduate School has compiled the following dates that may be particularly relevant:

For Fall 2012, registration between April 27, 2012 and July 31, 2012 will be billed on August 1, 2012.  Students will continue to be billed on the 1st business day of the month throughout the semester.  Bills are due by the 20th of the month in which they are issued, so the first Fall 2012 due date will be August 20, 2012.

Students receiving financial aid (e.g., student loans) must be registered by August 6, 2012 to have financial aid applied to their student account prior to the first day of class. Remember, the minimum enrollment for Stafford Loans is 6 credits.  Graduate assistantship courses (GRAD 600 and GRAD 601) are not eligible for financial aid, nor are they considered when determining financial aid eligibility.

Two principle penalty fees affect students – the late registration fee and the late payment fee.  A late registration fee of $20 will be charged to students who register on the first day of the term (August 29, 2012) or later.  A late payment fee of 5% of the past due balance will be charged the first time that a student account becomes past due for the semester, which is on the 25th of the month in which the bill is issued.  An additional late payment fee of 1% of the past due balance will be charged on the 25th of each month that charges remain past due.  In all instances, the late payment fee charged to students has a minimum of $10 and a maximum of $200 per month.

Students are always responsible for ensuring that any charges on their accounts are paid in full before the due date.  Graduate Assistants are advised to work closely with their supporting departments to be certain that The Graduate School receives all necessary assistantship paperwork before the assessment of late payment fees.
