Computer Science Alumni and Current Researchers Win Prestigious Awards

Kavita Krishnaswamy ’07, Computer Science and Mathematics, was awarded two prestigious fellowships – the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship and the Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship.  She is currently a second year Ph.D. student in Computer Science.  Congratulations Kavita!

UMBC alum Tom Armstrong ‘08, Ph.D. Computer Science was just awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to study for six months in India. Tom is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts.  He is currently at UMBC doing research in the CORAL lab as part of his sabbatical.  Research in the Cognition, Robotics, and Learning (CORAL) lab seeks to understand how artificial systems can acquire grounded knowledge from sensori-motor interaction with their environment that enables cognitive activities like natural language communication and planning.

Kavita is also a member of the CORAL lab.
